Google - Voice search experiments
When Google wanted to introduce the Android platform's voice search capabilities they decided what better way than to test them out in the most extreme environments possible. This project is still one of my favourites.
One experiment took place in the desert about 400 kilometres north of Adelaide in the state of South Australia, and involved whisper dishes, two parabolic arcs which when positioned correctly can transport a whisper over a surprisingly wide distance.
The other experiment took us to the Great Barrier Reef, where we used a transponder to relay questions from a diver under water to the phone up on a boat.
